Today is a world that is vastly in tune to consumer electronics. Some of us of the Baby Boomer generation cannot seem to take in the entire consumer electronics field all that fast and change as quickly with the times.

We had better get ourselves in gear so that we are not left behind in the dust. At least we are going to want to be able to carry on an intelligent conversation with our children about mp3 players, digital cameras, CD players and subwoofers just to name a few on the list.

The technology of consumer electronics products is ever-changing. Don’t think that you can buy a personal computer or a laptop one year and expect that these products will serve you for a lifetime. Actually, computers are designed to last about 5 years and then they are termed obsolete.

If something goes wrong with it and you have to send it to the shop to get it fixed, many times the repair price will be so astronomical that is would be better just to junk the whole system and get a new one if that is within your budget.

The computer is probably the biggest ticket item you will have to buy next to a car navigational system. Let’s take a look at one of these to see what it’s all about. Thee are several navigation receivers that fits smoothly within you dashboard. This piece of electronic equipment will not only provide you with music and movies, but in case you get lost it will provide turn-by-turn directions from Kenwood’s onboard navigation system. This electronics system is complete with a DivX compatible DVD players as well as a touch screen which will be able to make your movies seem lifelike when you are parked.

As far as navigation system goes most include, voice guidance the names of the streets so that you will be able to keep your eyes on the road. You can also purchase an XM tuner so that you can see what the traffic is doing and get weather updates.

It seems that the sky’s the limit when you go to buy a navigational system for your car. You can get them either as simple or as sophisticated as you want. It all depends upon what kind of budget you have to work with.

The next piece of popular consumer electronics products is the mp3 player. You will find that most teenagers and young people simply can’t do without their ipod or mp3 player. You can find them often obliviously walking around with earphone stuck in their ears and listening to their favorite song tracts. MP3 players provide convenience and control that no other early music formats could do. Some mp3 players have the capability of storing thousands of songs.

Just how does an mp3 player work? To put it simply, it is nothing more than a data-storage device which has an embedded software application. This allows the user to transfer mp3 files to his or her player. Utilities are also available for copying music from CDs, websites or the radio.

The user can also create custom lists of songs in a specific order that they would like to hear them. This is called a playlist. With the mp3 player, you are able to see the convergence of many technologies. All of these technologies together create a phenomenal consumer electronics product.

Today, there is no going back. We are stuck in the technological age like it or not. If possible, we oldsters should just try to be flexible and go with the flow in this consumer electronics age.

So you know electronics and any amount of water do not mix. It can and will totally destroy anything electronic. This would include your laptop, your computer, TV, and stereo. Water can damage your stove, razors, fans and your radio. The radio in your car is just in as much danger as the one in your house.

The stereo in your car may be in a little more danger because you usually have soda, coffee, or other drink. Your laptop may also be in danger because it can come in contact with bags of groceries which you throw on top of your laptop without thinking. Most of the time, you are in a hurry to get to your first class of the morning, or you are on your way to work and are running a little bit late. The last thing you think about is the electronic device sitting on the passenger seat in your car.

We use our electronic devices each and every day. We listen to our radio on the way to and from work. We use our computers and laptops to play games, talk to other people and friends, or to just work on. We make coffee every morning and use our stoves to cook on three times a day. We watch our TVs every night while some people have nothing better to do all day but watch TV.

If you happen to be around any water or something using electricity, don’t keep them too close together. Never have their cords in a place that you could trip on, causing that item to fall into this water. Be extremely careful with these things around small or young children and sometimes around older adults.

If any of these electric devices would happen to have some water spilled on them, pull the plug or shut it off immediately. Take off the back, if possible, and let it dry for several days. Sometimes this will work, and sometimes it won’t. If they spill soda pop on it, take it to someone who knows what they are doing and are qualified. However, there is no guarantee that they can repair it.

Just slow down and remember that these devices are not indestructible. If they are damaged in any way, it will cost you in the short and long run. You will have to replace these items. Most of the time, they will cost you more the second or third time around. If this were to happen to some people, they might not be able to replace things like a computer or a laptop. Be very careful.

As you all know that pace of our life has increased and we want everything to be done quickly. In olden days may be time did not play an important role as much as I does today. Everybody is in a hurry to reach somewhere, to see something… to do something. Thanks to our nature of curiosity, we’ve been and are always finding ways to make things easier for us. This is also making our life better in some ways.

You don’t need to go anywhere to see how technology has influenced us. If you enter your kitchen you’ll see a number of electronic items around… and which I’m sure some of the husbands may not even know what they are used for or may be how to operate them. So you see, at least one member of the family knows the purpose and knows how to use them. You may not be aware, but this person is dependent on it everyday to make life easy.

Let’s take a simple example of a bread toaster. Your wife uses it every day and will be using it for a number of years till one day it stops working. Likewise, there are many more examples like your washing machine, water heater, iron, television set, refrigerator, oven, even your coffee-making machine, etc.

Lisa recently shifted to a new location. She’s a single mother busy with her life and career. She’s got with her all the possible electronic items that she could think of because they make her life more comfortable and manageable. Everything’s new for her so she’ll take time to adjust to the new place. She has to find out if there’s a bakery nearby, a restaurant, medical shop, hospital, and yes of course she also has to know if there are electricians around… what if on day the heater stops working!

The last one will be difficult to find… you should either be very good at fixing things or should be a technician yourself. But don’t be upset about that because we can still work on it. Well, repairing electrical appliances will of course pinch your pocket even if the fault is a small one. If we take care to choose the right product from a right source it will to a certain extent save us from unnecessary repairs.

To explain it further, if you buy a branded product it will cost you more at the beginning but it will be of worth. First of all, the product will be of good quality which will minimize the risk of not working. Also, you’ll get free service for certain period which can be a year or two. Even after the period is over they might only charge you a minimum fee for any repair work undertaken. This way you save money and you also know where to contact if the problem persists.

Maintenance is also very important. Always wipe clean the appliance as per the instructions after usage, especially items such as oven, toaster, blender etc. When you keep them in good condition you increase their life and the damage done is less.

You can also follow some simple steps like to unplug the appliance after use, wipe it properly with dry cloth, make sure that the wire doesn’t touch water and any electrical appliance is not kept near water. Check if the cords are well connected and use a proper socket for the cord. You can also refer to the appliance brochure when you’re going wrong.
